As a child, I like many other 90s era babies had a passion for pokemon. I loved the show, I collected the cards, I owned the handbook, you name it, if it dealt with those loveable characters, I was all up in it. I had amassed a respectable collection of trading cards by the time I had reached the third grade, though I was still quite ignorant on the whole reality that some cards were more valuable than others. It was a normal afternoon in my neighborhood, meaning that all the kids had assembled with their large binders full of Pokemon cards in someone’s backyard to discuss the latest Pokemon Show episode and to trade cards. I had in my negligent possession, what I later learned was one of the most precious and rare cards; an Alakazam! But I was young and in love with the more familiar characters Blastoise and Charzard. I traded my priceless Alakazam to a especially Machiavellian playmate and never gave it a second thought, until I reported my devastating trade to a classmate in school the next day, learning of my huge error.

He is deceitful because at first he pretends to be a friendly vampire who only travels with the bad kind for safety. His Machiavellianess is revealed later though. At first he refuses to take part in the hunting of the human named Bella, of whom the Cullens, a vampire family, are fiercefully protecting. He flees to Alaska to stay with a family of vampires who refrains from hunting humans. After the Cullens kill the vampire who was hunting Bella, his mate hires Laurent to hunt Bella for revenge. When Bella is alone in a meadow, Laurent attempts to attack her. This reveals his Machiavellianess because he was being deceitful. Bella was not harmed because Laurent was eaten by werewolfs.
